College Counseling Institute (CCI)

Monday, October 21, 2019 at Rockhurst University

The College Counseling Institute is a one-day professional development opportunity for high school counselors who want to learn more about helping their students with the college admissions process. Counselors will have the opportunity to attend four sessions throughout the day with topics that include:

  • Helping Students Find the Right Fit
  • Mental Health & Transitioning to College
  • Counselor Rec Letters - The Bulleted Narrative
  • Financial Aid Stuff You Should Know
  • Admit? Waitlist? Deny? You Decide: A Selective Admissions Case Study
  • Advising First-Gen, Low-Income, Undocumented Students
  • Implementing College Counseling Activities in a Comprehensive Counseling Program
  • College Athletics - The NCAA & the Role of the High School Counselor
  • Gap Years
  • College: Accommodations, Programs & Transitions (Scott Laurent, UMKC)

This event will be particularly helpful for counselors new to college counseling (five years or less), but seasoned counselors seeking additional professional development are also welcome!

Since CCI rotates locations across the state, it is only held in Kansas City once every three years! This year, CCI will be held at Rockhurst University on October 21, 2019. This event is free for MOACAC members and $20 for non-MOACAC members.
